MazaJ music education aims to keep a continuity with theory and craft of the arabic music traditions. The main teaching event is by the Jalsat Darbuka which is an open class that meets every Saturday, and by regular more intensive workshops. We work with a network of organisations providing the musical element.

The Jalsat and workshops are structured, with lesson plans, engaging the beginner, and guiding their progress through stages - technique of the darbuka, rhythms, introductory arabic rhythm theory, learning how to practise, exercises for home work, learning to play in group, soloing, playing with a dancer, with other instrumentalist.

We offer three levels of tuition: beginner, intermediary, and advanced. The Jalsat is for all levels, runs weekly and lasts 2 hrs. The intermediary, and advanced levels are run as workshops and info will be posted here.

(Please note that there's no Jalsat over the summer!)
